{"id":111,"date":"2011-11-23T09:03:48","date_gmt":"2011-11-23T09:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.csections.org\/?p=111"},"modified":"2011-11-23T09:12:08","modified_gmt":"2011-11-23T09:12:08","slug":"nice-guidelines-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.csections.org\/?p=111","title":{"rendered":"NICE guidelines published"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today NICE released the 2011 version of their guidelines for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"NICE Caesarean Section Guideline\" href=\"http:\/\/guidance.nice.org.uk\/cg132\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">Caesarean Section.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are a number of significant updates. In particular:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>women wanting to request a caesarean on the grounds of fear should be offered perinatal mental health support and if, following this, they continue to want a caesarean, this should be granted<\/li>\n<li>women wanting to request a caesarean where there is no medical need should engage in a detailed discussion with their practitioners. All the risks and benefits of both vaginal and caesarean birth should be fully discuss but if, after this, the woman still prefers a caesarean this should be granted<\/li>\n<li>not all women with HIV should be automatically offered a caesarean, they should be informed that <em>&#8220;the risk of HIV transmission is the same for a CS and a vaginal birth&#8221;<\/em> in specific circumstances &#8211; read the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"NICE Caesarean Guideline\" href=\"http:\/\/guidance.nice.org.uk\/cg132\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">guideline<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span> (page 6) to get a summary of the specific circumstances where this is the case<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are also new recommendations regarding: timing of antibiotic administration, the use of colour-flow Doppler ultrasound scans etc.<\/p>\n<p>The important thing to note is that this is a guideline, not a directive and some hospitals may still choose to ignore some of the recommendations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today NICE released the 2011 version of their guidelines for Caesarean Section.
